How to Renew a Domain Name
Introduction
A domain name is the address customers use to find your website and, in many cases, send email to your organisation. Renewing your domain name before it expires helps keep your website, email and related online services working without interruption.
This guide explains how Apexhost domain renewal works, what to check before renewing, how to renew a domain from the Apexhost Client Area, and what to do if a renewal does not appear to process as expected.
Background: how domain renewal works
Domain names are registered for a fixed period. They do not remain active permanently unless they are renewed. If a domain reaches its expiry date without renewal, services connected to that domain may stop working. This can include your website, email addresses, DNS records and third-party services that depend on the domain.
For domains managed through Apexhost, renewal is usually connected to the domain renewal invoice. In most cases, paying the renewal invoice allows the domain to renew automatically. Some domains may also have an auto-renewal setting that helps reduce the risk of accidental expiry, provided the related invoice is paid successfully.
Before you begin
Before renewing your domain name, make sure you have:
* Access to the Apexhost Client Area.
* The email address and password for your Apexhost account.
* Permission to manage billing or domains for the account.
* A valid payment method if a renewal invoice is unpaid.
* The domain name you want to renew.
If you cannot log in to the Client Area, use the password reset option on the login page or contact Apexhost Support for assistance.
How to renew a domain name
Follow these steps to renew a domain managed through Apexhost.
1. Log in to the Apexhost Client Area.
2. Open the billing or invoices section of your account.
3. Find the unpaid invoice for the domain renewal.
4. Open the invoice and review the domain name, due date and amount.
5. Select the payment option shown on the invoice.
6. Enter or confirm your payment details.
7. Submit the payment and wait for the invoice status to update.
8. After the invoice is paid, check the domain status in the domain management area.
In most cases, the domain should renew automatically after the renewal invoice has been paid. Payments may take time to process, so it is best to renew domains before the expiry date rather than waiting until the final day.

Checking domain auto-renewal
Auto-renewal helps prevent accidental domain expiry. If auto-renewal is enabled, the domain is set to renew according to the billing settings on your account, provided the related payment is completed successfully.
To check auto-renewal:
1. Log in to the Apexhost Client Area.
2. Open the Domains section.
3. Select My Domains.
4. Choose the domain name you want to check.
5. Review the auto-renewal setting.
6. Leave auto-renewal enabled if you want to keep the domain active.
7. Disable auto-renewal only if you no longer want to keep the domain.
Disabling auto-renewal may allow the domain to expire at the end of the current registration period. Only disable it if you are sure the domain is no longer required.

Additional information
Renew early where possible
Renewing a domain early usually adds the renewal period to the existing expiry date. It does not normally shorten the time you have already paid for. Renewing early helps reduce the risk of website or email disruption caused by late payment, failed payment processing or missed renewal notices.
Keep your contact details up to date
Apexhost and domain registries may send important renewal, billing or verification notices to the contact details listed on your account or domain record. Keep your email address, phone number and billing details current so you do not miss important notices.
Domain renewal and DNS are separate
Renewing a domain keeps the registration active. DNS, or Domain Name System, controls where the domain points for website and email services. If your domain is renewed but your website or email is not working, the issue may relate to DNS, hosting, email configuration or another connected service rather than the renewal itself.
Troubleshooting
The domain still looks expired after payment
Payment processing and registry updates may take time. Confirm that the invoice is marked as paid, then check the domain status again later. If the domain still appears expired after the payment has processed, contact Apexhost Support with the domain name and invoice number.
I cannot find the renewal invoice
Check that you are logged in to the correct Apexhost Client Area account. The domain may be under a different account, or the invoice may not have been generated yet. If the domain is close to expiry and you cannot find the invoice, contact Apexhost Support.
My payment failed
Confirm that your payment details are correct and that your card has not expired. You may need to update your payment method in the Client Area before attempting payment again.
My website or email is not working after renewal
If the domain has been renewed but services are still unavailable, check whether the domain’s nameservers and DNS records are correct. Website hosting, email hosting and DNS records must all be configured correctly for services to work.
Frequently asked questions
Can I renew my domain before it expires?
Yes. If the domain is eligible for renewal, you can usually renew it before the expiry date. Renewing early helps avoid accidental expiry.
Does paying the invoice renew the domain automatically?
In most cases, paying the domain renewal invoice allows the domain to renew automatically. If the renewal does not complete as expected, contact Apexhost Support.
What happens if my domain expires?
If a domain expires, your website, email and DNS-dependent services may stop working. If it is not renewed within the available recovery period, the domain may eventually become available for someone else to register.
Should I turn off auto-renewal?
Only turn off auto-renewal if you no longer want to keep the domain. Leaving auto-renewal enabled helps reduce the risk of accidental expiry.
