Using SMTP auth for Outlook 2007 / 2010 (Recommended)


Note: These settings are not required if you setup outlook to use SSL

NOTE: Ensure your Incoming and Outgoing mail servers are set to: mail.apexhost.com.au before you make the following changes.


Using SMTP auth (Outlook 2007) on the Apexhost mail system is recomended.

1.. Open outlook (2007) and go to Tools then Account settings. (may be Tools then Email Accounts or similar in previous versions)
2.. Select the email address you wish to change (if multiple accounts are listed)
3.. Select change (or properties), in the next screen click the More Settings (or Advanced) tab or button.
4.. In this screen click the Outgoing Server Tab.
5.. Tick the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" tick box and ensure that "Use the same settings as my incoming mail server is also ticked. Click then Next then Finish to save.

You should now be able to send and receive mail using Apexhost mail server

 

Using SMTP auth (Outlook 2010) on the Apexhost mail system is recomended.

1... Open Outlook 2010
2... Click on File tab then click on Account settings
3... Select the email address you wish to change from the e-mail tab and click on the change button.
4... Click on the more settings button and select the outgoing server tab.
5... Tick the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and ensure that "Use the same settings as my incomming mail server" is selected
6... Click ok click next, it will do a test, then click close and then click finnish.

NOTE: You should also use port 366 in your outgoing mail server settings because many ISPs now block port 25. Please go to this article for information on how to do this.
